Highland Home

Mr. Vernon "Rabbit" Maddox, 84, a resident of Highland Home, Alabama, passed away peacefully in his home, surrounded by his family, on Sunday, October 10, 2021. A graveside service for Mr. Maddox will be held at 11 AM on Wednesday, October 13th, in Ramer Cemetery with Brother John Dickinson officiating and Turners Funeral Home of Luverne directing.

Mr. Maddox proudly served his country with the Army National Guard for 32 years before retiring with the final rank of sergeant. He was also a welder for Kershaw Manufacturing in Montgomery for 23 years. Mr. Maddox was a gregarious, outgoing man who truly fit the phrase that he "never met a stranger." In his free time, he enjoyed few things more than getting together with friends to play games like dominoes and cards. He also enjoyed spending time outdoors with fishing or hunting. He was an avid Alabama Crimson Tide fan and could always be found cheering them on whenever they were competing.

Mr. Maddox was preceded in death by his parents, Ellum & Bertha Sasser Maddox, and his six siblings. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Myrtle Collier Maddox; their daughters, Jennifer (Danny) Brown and Sandra Lowery; grandchildren, Tonya Lowery and Kristin (Jamie) Clark; great-grandchildren, Hunter Lowery, Brantley Taylor, and Henleigh Clark; brother-in-law, Charlie Collier; and special nephew, Terry Wayne Hudson.

Danny and Jennifer Brown, guardians of Gabberila & Colton Brown.

Active pallbearers will be Kevin Brown, Doug Brown, Shorty Gibson, Comer Dorsey, Danny Brown, and Jamie Clark.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to Comfort Care Hospice of Greenville.

Family and friends will meet in the cemetery at the service time.
