Virgil R. Boutwell, 83, a resident of Goshen, Alabama, passed away peacefully at Crenshaw Community Hospital on Friday, August 23rd, 2024. A memorial service for Virgil will be held at a later date.
Virgil proudly served his country with the Alabama National Guard for many years. In his professional career, he enjoyed his work as foreman at an asphalt plant and, in his younger days, he loved few things more than the time he spent in nature either hunting or finding one of his favorite fishing spot to drop a line. At home, he relaxed best with one of his favorite old Western movies or TV shows. More than anything, he was a devoted husband and stepfather, but his favorite people in the world were the little ones who called him "Paw Paw Virgil."
Virgil was preceded in death by his wife, Edna Boutwell; parents, Leroy & Maggie Ruth Moore Boutwell; siblings, Ruth Boutwell, Rex Boutwell, and Yvonne Hughes; and sister-in-law, Jennice Boutwell. He is survived by his stepchildren, Linda (Donnie) Greer, Carlos (Grace) Dean, Will Dean, Cathy (Robert) Canant, and Mike (Helen) Dean; grandchildren, Tony Greer, Kevin Dean, Trinia Riddle, Chessie Canant, Dusty Dean, Faith Dean, Laken Dean, Hope McGowin, and Michelle Wunsh; siblings, Patsy (Charles) Matthews, Dan Boutwell, and Ann (Rick) Holley; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
