Mr. Walter “Shenney” Herman Gaines, 86, a resident of Brantley, Alabama, passed away peacefully at Crenshaw Community Hospital on Tuesday, August 25, 2020. A graveside service for Mr. Gaines will be held at 2 PM on Wednesday, August 26th, in Brantley Cemetery with Rev. Nick Gaines officiating and Turners Funeral Home of Luverne directing.
Mr. Gaines proudly served his country with the United States Army, and spent most of his time stationed in Germany. After an honorable discharge, he travelled the country as a truck driver for many years. He also owned a number of businesses, even running a tire and oil service until he was 83. Like the rest of the Gaines men, he loved to toy with mechanics, constantly working on something. In his free time, he thoroughly enjoyed hunting and fishing. Ultimately, his priority was always his family. He worked many hard days to support them and make sure they had all they needed. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother, who was loved in return just as much. His family will forever cherish all of the precious memories they made with him over a lifetime.
Mr. Gaines was preceded in death by his wife, Roselie Langford Gaines; their son, Jeffrey Brian Gaines; parents, Walter N. & Ruthie Mae Carr Gaines; and three siblings, Q.P. Gaines, Donnie Hue “Hootie” Gaines, and Lily Gaines Savell. He is survived by two children, Debora (Tommy) Colquett and Ken (Norlie) Gaines; three grandchildren, Dana (Parker) Wallace, Christina (Nick) Massenburg, and Walter Aller Gaines; great-grandson, Kyte Wallace; five siblings, Ruth Mount, Margie Prescott, Sara Lou Sewell, Bob Gaines, and Nick (Betty) Gaines; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
Family and friends will meet in the cemetery at service time.
