William Chester Baker

Mr. William Chester Baker, 80, a resident of Highland Home, Alabama, passed away peacefully in his home on Tuesday, November 26, 2019. Funeral services for Mr. Baker will be held at 11 AM on Friday, November 29, from the Chapel of Turners Funeral Home with Rev. Parker Bowen officiating. Interment will follow in Rocky Mount Cemetery with Turners Funeral Home of Luverne directing.

Mr. Baker retired from the Colonial Bread Company after many years as a head baker. In his spare time, he was passionate about his gardening. He loved growing all kinds of different vegetables, and loved freely giving them away to others. He was also affectionately dubbed the honorary mayor of the Magnolia Shores community. Above all, however, he was a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who enjoyed nothing more than doting on his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He will be dearly missed by all of his loved ones and friends.

Mr. Baker was preceded in death by two children, David Chester Baker and Melanie Baker Sawyer; his parents, William Brantley Baker and Jewel Baker Moore; and sister, Tessie Riley. He is survived by his three loving children, Vicki (Wayne) Benton, Scott (Mechelle) Baker, and Tracey Henderson; eight grandchildren, Jared Parker, Amanda Kelley, Loren Bass, Kelsi Stacey, Madison Baker, Kyler Henderson, Kendall Henderson, and Allison Benton; six great-grandchildren; four siblings, Larry (Estin) Baker, Lewie (Amy) Baker, Lois (Wayne) Whittaker, and Taffy (Jeff) Kelley; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Active pallbearers will be Hunter Stacey, Joshua Bass, Hunter Kelley, Dylan Kelley, Kyler Henderson, and Kendall Henderson.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 10 - 11 AM.
