Mr. William Clinton "Flash" Holmes, 76, a resident of Highland Home, Alabama, passed away peacefully at Regional Medical Center of Central Alabama in Greenville on Monday, September 27, 2021. Funeral services for Mr. Holmes will be held at 2 PM on Wednesday, September 29th, from the Chapel of Turners Funeral Home with Rev. Parker Bowen officiating. Interment will follow in Providence Cemetery with Turners Funeral Home of Luverne directing.
Mr. Holmes owned and operated his own service station for over 20 years before going to work at W.L. Petrey Wholesale. He ultimately retired from Petrey and set about fully enjoying his retirement. One of his favorite activities was working on his antique truck and car, then attending regional car shows around the Southeast. He also enjoyed just about anything that would keep him outside on a beautiful day, but especially gardening. He also loved simply enjoying a full, happy life from his front porch. He was limited to the outdoors and small town living as he also enjoyed traveling and trying his luck at the casino upon occasion. Above all, he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who loved nothing as well as he did spending time with his family. During that time they made so many cherished memories together, and his loved ones will find their comfort in those during trying days.
Mr. Holmes was preceded in death by his parents, Oliver Wendell and Annie Sanders Holmes, and his siblings, Shelby Holmes, Jean Buchanan, Marjorie Bodiford, and Ruth Duke. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Thelma Williamson Holmes; their daughters, Debra Holmes (Adam Bryan) and Rosemary (Thomas) Lowe; grandchildren, Lisa Lowe, Kimberly (Junior) Conway, Tonya (Blake) Castleberry), and Billy (Erica) Compton; great-grandchildren, Tripp, Cayden, & Brylee Conway, Luke & Jasper Castleberry, and Drake Crumpton; brothers, Mickey (Susan) Holmes and Donnie (Geissla) Holmes; and numerous nieces & nephews.
Active pallbearers will be Tony Holmes, Bo Duke, Adam Bryan, Junior Conway, Billy Crumpton, and Blake Castleberry.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 1 - 2 PM.
