William Ray McAllister, 62, a resident of Brantley, Alabama, passed away peacefully in his home on Friday, October 18th, 2024. A graveside service for Ray will be held at 2 PM on Thursday, October 24th, in Belser Memorial Trust Cemetery in Goshen with Turners Funeral Home of Luverne directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 12:30 to 1:30 PM.
Ray was a proud graduate of Brantley High School where he excelled at both basketball and baseball. In fact, he won a basketball scholarship to Enterprise State Community College, so he was obviously an exceptional athlete. He kept up his love of sports by continuing to play softball for many years as an adult. He took a job with Godwin Furniture in Brantley at the age of 15 and turned it into a lifetime occupation. He was well-known and well-loved by all of the customers he served throughout the years with Godwin and later with Powell Furniture, whether he was selling or delivering, all he cared about was serving his customers to the best of his ability. Ray worked so hard not only for his customers but for the family he loved so dearly. He certainly meant the world to them all and will be missed more than words could possibly express. They said that he especially LOVED his cherished feline companions and took exceptional care of all of them as well.
Ray was preceded in death by his grandmother, Leacy Smith. He is survived by his loving wife of almost 40 years, April Pugh McAllister; daughter, Christy Dawn Pugh; grandson, Johnathan "Bruno" Helton; mother, Loujean Henrichs Taylor; and a host of extended family members and friends.
Active pallbearers will be Johnathan Helton, Bubba Chandler, Tony Chandler, Danny Sport, David Sasser, Billy Christian, Charles Senn, and Shannon Fuller.
