Mr. William Winright Powell, 83, a resident of Brantley, Alabama, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 31, 2019. Funeral services for Mr. Powell will be held at 2 PM on Sunday, November 3, at Friendship Baptist Church with Rev. Bobby Powell officiating. Interment will follow in Bullock Community Cemetery with Turners Funeral Home directing.
Mr. Powell was an avid farmer who took tremendous pride in tending his vegetable garden. He had a particular gift with tomatoes, growing some of the biggest in the area. He spent much of his life working in the timber industry before he retired. Above all, he was a dedicated family man, affectionately known as “Daddy Will” by all of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren who he adored. He will live on in their hearts and cherished memories.
Mr. Powell was preceded in death by his grandson, Jeremy Powell, and his parents, Eddie and Fannie Marler Powell. He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Jimmie Spivey Powell; their son and daughter-in-law, Mickey Lynn and Janice Powell; two grandchildren, Jason Lynn (Carmen) Powell and Misty Powell (Brett) Green; four great-grandchildren, Zachary Powell, Natalie Powell, Sawyer Green, and Isla Kate Green; five siblings, Mavis LeGear, Margie Sansom, Mary (Gerald) Pryor, Martha (James Carlile, and Ruth (Hugh) Smith; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Active pallbearers will be Tommy Bryan, Lanny Bryan, Kenneth Bryan, Chris Powell, Derek Poff, and Greg Poff.
The family will receive friends at the church on Sunday from 1 - 2 PM.
