Windham "Wink" Stephenson

August 26, 1938 — August 17, 2024

Luverne

James Windham "Wink" Stephenson, 85, a resident of Luverne, Alabama, passed away peacefully at Luverne Health and Rehabilitation on Saturday, August 17th, 2024. Funeral services for Wink will be held at 10 AM on Tuesday, August 20th, from the Chapel of Turners Funeral Home with Brother Justin Jacobs officiating. Interment will follow in Rutledge Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, August 19th, from 6 to 8 PM.

Windham, also known as "Wink" or "Pop," was born to the late William "Tank" Tankersley Stephenson and Era Bell Cornett Stephenson in Luverne in late August 1938. He grew up having a strong work ethic and farming from a young age. You may remember him from cutting yards around town or from Renfroe Pecan House. If you knew Windham, you know he always had a contagious laugh, a positive outlook on life, and a true servant's heart. Family was a big part of his life and, before he had his own grandkids, he had a niece named Mandy who he and his two brothers, Charles and Von, spoiled to no end.

He didn't find his one true love, Sue, until a little later in life. They married in January of 1998 and built a beautiful family together. After that, he continued to cut grass, which was his one true passion. He always enjoyed time with his family, especially his grands. "Wink" loved a good meal and gathering with all of his family. He and Sue always enjoyed doing the simple things in life, such as going for a ride...and finding a good flea market on the way was a bonus. In his spare time, you may have also seen him in Fred's parking lot waiting for Sue's break or the end of her shift. Over the last several years, he developed Alzheimer's, which took his memory from him. His witty sense of humor and love will be missed by all that knew him.

His parents, and older brother Charles and Marvin Stephenson have all gone before him. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 26 years, Susan Lynn Stephenson; stepsons, David Franklin, Tommy (Allison) Franklin, Danny (Mallory) Wright, Andy (Charlsi) Wright; sister, Ann Taylor; brothers, Tom
(Nancy) Stephenson, Von (Doris) Stephenson, and Jerry (Annette) Stephenson; grandchildren, Heather (Josh) Butts, Brittany Franklin, Kyle (Amy) Franklin, Zach Franklin, Alex Franklin, Lucas Wright, Marlee Wright, Abbi Wright, Harper Allen,
and Kase Wright; along with seven great-grands and a host of nieces and nephews.

Active pallbearers will be Josh Butts, Kyle Franklin, Jerry Jarvis, Randy Stephenson, Danny Taylor, Stevie Taylor.
