Daniel Rochester "Pete" Johnson, 84, a resident of Brantley, Alabama, passed away peacefully at Luverne Health & Rehabilitation on Sunday, May 12th, 2024. A graveside service for Pete will be at 2 PM on Wednesday, May 15th, in Brunson Chapel Cemetery with Rev. Keith Morgan officiating and Turners Funeral Home of Luverne directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 12:30 - 1:30 PM.
Pete enjoyed few things more than spending as much time as possible basking in the natural beauty of the great state of Alabama, and Crenshaw County in particular. Professionally, he spent over 40 years traveling around the Southeast as a truck driver, loving both the open road and meeting all kinds of people. In his free time, he loved working the farm to keep himself busy. Of course, as any native resident of Crenshaw knows, there's nowhere better to grab a good meal than at the Chicken Shack, and Pete enjoyed every single one he had there. He was also blessed with a phenomenal sense of humor and loved cracking jokes and cutting up with people....which probably had something to do with how his service in the National Guard "just didn't work out," as he phrased it! Above all, however, Pete was a truly wonderful father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and all-around fine human being. There was nothing he would not do for his family and they cherished him as much as possible. If you spent time with him, you knew how blessed you were to be a part of his life. Words cannot express how much all those who knew and loved him will miss him, but that special laugh and smile of his will live on in their memories for many more years to come.
Pete was preceded in death by his grandson, Marcus Reeves; parents, Andrew "Jack" & Margaret Brunson Johnson; and siblings, Mary-Grace Sorrells, Dorothy Allen, Eleanor Johnson, Glenn Johnson, H.J. Johnson, Robert Johnson, and George Johnson. He is survived by his his children, Jennifer Langer, Cindy Leverette, Donald (Susan) Carver, and Tina (Keith) Morgan; grandchildren, Hagan (Cery) Morgan, Kristen (Blake) Morgan, Anna Carver, Lucas Reeves, Jonas (Katie) Morgan, Abigail Langer, and Emmalin Langer; great-grandchildren, Parker Morgan, Dane Carver, Raylan Morgan, Grayson Morgan, Micah Morgan, and Quinn Morgan; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
Active pallbearers will be Hagan Morgan, Jonas Morgan, Blake Morgan, Lucas Reeves, Roy Johnson, and Tommy Johnson.
